MUSICAL SOCIETY

A meeting of the committee of the above Society was held last night in Mr May’s shop. Present : Messrs McGregor, Clough, W Main gay, May, Woods and Burton. The chair was taken by Mr McGregor, and in the unavoidable absence of Mr Hill, his duties as secretary wore discharged by Mr Burton.

It was decided that the next concert should ho of tho miscellaneous order —glees, part songs, etc. The following glees, ‘ Ilail* Smiling Morn,’ ‘ Tho Cuckoo sings in tire Poplar Tree,’ and ‘ Tho Stars that above us are Shining,’ are to bo put into immediate rehearsal. A fourth gleo will be de cided upon as so m as possible by tho conduc or. Moinhi rs should take notice that practice will ho resumed in Smardoa’s Hall on Tuesday, 13th March. ] n order that no time be wasted, it wus resolved to obtain from tho Hovuiipoi t Musical Society copies of tho Cantata ‘May Day.’ which will shortly ho put into rehearsal for tho second concert of tho current year. It was further decided that tho conductor negotiate with Mr Fdmiston, of tho Cho-al Society, to obtain a suitable Cantata to be rendered at the end of tho year. Intending now members are expected to hand in their names to the secretary, Mr AY. Hill, on or before Tuesday, 13th March.
