Special Meeting. This was summoned with a view to rescinding a resolution passed last mon ; h, re reduction of loan interest. C'r Harrison wi'hdrew the motion to this effect standing in his name, and of which he had given notice. In the j discussion the reduc'ion of interest • th'. Chairman p unted out that he did not think it was wor k Councils white to proo »ed*under sub section 3 of section 2 of the Government Loans to Local Bodies Act Amendment Act, whereby the interest of the loan was reduced to 3* per cent, spread over a ■ term of 41 yea- s. Their present loans * would run ow in ab ut 16 years, and if they extended the period they would be paying too much for the accommodation (about £6OO extra). f he .J* ew arrangement would be easier for them in but in the end t e County, in the aggregate, wou d have : raid very stiffly for the concession. The first alternative, namely, reduction of interest to 4J- per cent., during the present undxpired term, would be n distinct gain, although not a large one, and ho suggested Council should -adopt it. Councillors agreed with this, and meeting passed a resolution proceeding under sub section 1 ot section 2 of the Act, whereby the interest* will be reduced to.4£ per cent, for the existing term. —This resolution will he confirmed at a special meeting to be held four weeks hence.
