MANAWARU.
(From Our Own Cbrresponden’.)
Sinking wells are the order of the day —it is quite interesting to see the ingenious ways in which the cockatoos take to prevent the sides from caving in, every one has a plan of his own ; and some are I’eally very clever, and display a great talent in engineering. On Monday morning last there was rquite a the thermometer registered 31 degrees fah., a few days ago it went up to 95 degrees in the shade. Of course the frost played old goosewith the tomatoes, etc., in the gardens. What with the continual draught and C'>ld nights it is a pretty tough year on the farmers. At preß- • ent I.see no signs of any change in the weather; Wt prophesying on the weather is very uncertain. Svvarup fires are still burning and will require a good soaking to extinguish them.
