FIRE. ON- BOARD THE AOTEA, Wellington, Yesterday.
The s.B Aotea*, which sailed for London yesterday morning, returned to port this morning. A, fire broke out in her engine-room, but it was extinguished before she reached - the Heads onjier return. , The fire started on the of the starboard boiler. The principal damage is- to-Howdon ? s patent draught apparatns which was melted. Some woodwork was also burned. The mncliinory was not hurt, and the' fire was well away from- the cargo-. The repairs will probably eost | some hundreds of pounds, and occupy three or four days.
