HOT SPRINGS BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting of the above Board was held in the Board’s office on Wednesday evening last. Present:—Messrs F. Gallagher (in the chair), A. W. Edwards, J. Mill 4, D. McL. Wallace.
Minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. Inward and outward correspondence dealt with.
Monthly Statement: The Clerk read the following statement for 5 weeks ending 7th Eeb; 1900 :
Hydropathic Treatment.—Mr Jas. Muir, hydropathic specialist, waited upon the Board and explained at some length the methods adopted by him in practising his treatment. He urged upon the Board the necessity for appointing some one with this special knowledge, as he was convinced that without it many invalids were leaving the place without having derived anj r advantage from a course of the bahs. He produced many testimonials fr.‘in medical men in England as to his fitness for (he position, and staged that if appointed ho felt certain he c nld advance the interests of Te Ar<>ha. After some discussion, the Board fie cidod to give the matter a trial, and th-.y accordingly engaged Mr Muir a: the rate of £SO p?r annum, a quarter’s notice on either side o terminate the engagement. Mr Muir will be required to give free advice as regards the judicious use of the . baths, but will, of course, be allowed fees for treatment.
Domain Improvements :—The Government having nuthori-ed the expenditure of £485 5s 7d on lawn extension and construction of a bowling the {Board decided to carry out the work forthwith. Having gone into committee, the Board, after some discussion, decided to eDgago Mr McArthur, surveyor, Paeroa, to prepare the necessary plan and specifications for carrying out the work.
Accounts:—The following accounts were passed for payment: Caretakers’, £39 15s; W. Hill, £3 4s 4d ; News, £2 6s 6d; Bond, £4 lls 8d ;■ N. Z. Insurance Co. £5 11s 3d ; Band, £4 ss; Sundries £9 2s lOd; Porter and Co. £3 2s 6d ; Dudley and Chainey, £4 2s 3d ; J. West, £3 9s 6d.
