A LACK IN TE AROHA.

TO THE EDITOR Sir, —Some eight or ten yea’-s ago, whr-n I first visited your delightful town, I spent many a pleasant hour on the tennis court, find when tired of using the racquet enjoyed a on the river. Nowadays my muscles — due to the ravages of advancing ag * —are not s • flexible as of yore, and I find tennis too fatiguing. The row on the river seems quite as attractive but your mosquitoes eviden'ly possess the Cockney’s antipathy to a stranger, and evidenced it in the most marked faslion when last I weut for a pu'l. The result is that time hangs heavily on my hands and Te Aroha has lost much of its charm for me. I spend half the day longing for a game of bowls and Jfcel confident that if the authorities w uld provide a blowing green (f >r which tlruv is ample room in the Dounvn) the result would be that many desirable visitors would fl 'ck to this town A bowler does nor enjoy his holiday unless he can practise his favouri e game daily. As regard- the cost of laying down a green I am sure it would pay your three h del-keepers to subscribe liberally f r such a purpose, as bowlers always like to stay at a g od lio’el, and, s'range as it may appear to an ou sidor, the game is productive of great thirst (especially for good whisky). In Older t* provide for the amusement, of the bowlers’ wives and daughters I would also suggest the advisability of making and > quipping a croquot lawn, for cr quet is fa-t bee .mining a very popular summer game. Trusting that what I’have .-ai l will lead to m tion by the authorities, and thanking you for so far tiospassing ou y ur spate. —I am, < to.,

Forty-five,
