Te Aroha Agricultural and Horticultural Society.
A meetimg of the committee of the above Society was held on Wednesday last, in the Domain office, when there were present: —W. H. Herries, Esq., M.H.R. (iu the chair), and Messrs Bowler (2), Hill, Hetherington, Wallace. Bossons, Brown,. Bellamy, Stanley, Hirst, East, Lavery, Parr, Wright, Rowe. Stewards. The following alterations were made in the list of stewards : Mr Parr’s name was added to’those of the stock division and Mr B. Jackson’s to fruit, while Mr J. Browu was transferred from stock to fruit. Lighting. —The offer of Messrs Wil kinson, Cambridge, to light the tent at night with acetylene gas, for £3 10s, was considered too expensive. Mr A. W. Edwards having volunteered the loan of four large lamps, his offer was accepted with thanks. Entries.—Milk waggons : In view of the fact that these could not possibly be on the ground at ten o’clock, owing to being engaged at the factories, it was decided to extend the time in this class till 11.30 a.m. at latest. Time table.—The show will not be formally opened to the public until 12 noon, in order that the judges may not be hampered in their work. Should any desire admission prior to that time, a charge of 2s will be made. No passes will be granted. The general parade will be at 1 p.m., and the driving and leaping competitions will start about 1.30 p.m. The opening ceremony will be performed by Mr Herries, M.H.R , the president of the Society. Measuring Standard.— It was decided to have this on the ground for measuring horses, if necessary. Mr Wallace’s offer to make one was accepted with thanks.
Donation of Timber.—Mr P. Baine, agent for the Mountain Eirau Timber ,Co. notified that the comyany. had donated 1000 feet of timber to the Society. A vote of thanks was passed to the company, and the secretary was instructed to convey the same to the donors.
Miscellaneous. —Messrs Bowler and Wright were empowered to arrange the position of the booths on the ground, and Messrs Edwards, Laverv, Hirst, and Wright were appointed to arrange for a lunch and dinner to the judges and committee. Special Prizes.—The following special prizes have been donated since the schedule was printed: John Burns and Co., cruet, 10s 6d ; E. Pilkington and Co., vegetable seeds, 10s 6d ; Smith and Caughey, goods, 10s 6d; Yates and Co., vegetable seeds, 10s 6d; Bycroft Ltd., goods, 10s; Auckland Star, volume; Smeeton, watch, 8s 6d; Steel Champion Flour Mills, goods, 12s 6d; E. Porter and Co., clock, 10s 6d ; E. W. Hellaby, 2cwt. manure 1 Is; I. Hopkins, 6d; L. D. Nathan, 51b tea, 7s 6d ; Geo. Fowlds, prize, 10s 6d ; J. Williams, crockery, 5s ; Mclndoe and Hill, buggy lamp.
