TRANSVAAL WAR FUND.
COMMITTEE. A STEETTN'Gt of the Committee was .held in the Domain office on Tuesday night, when there were present the M ivor (in the chair) and Messrs Rev Walls and McFarland, Mills, Pavitt, Hirst, Wright, McGregor, Crombie, Gilchrist (Treasurer), and Hill (Secretary). A letter was received from Rev Campbell, stating that he could not act on the Committee, but that the movement had his cordial sympathy. 9 On the motion of Mr Pavitt, seconded l>y Mr Mills, it was agreed that th© open air Concert in the Domain be held on the evening of Saturday, ;10th February. Messrs Hirst and P ivitt were deputed to interview the various tradespeople asking them to c’ose on that night betweeu 7 and 10 p.m.. It was also agreed that Rev Mr Campbell and Rev Mr Walls be asked to deliver brief 1 and appropriate speeches on the night of the gathering in the Domain. The matter of canvassing the town for subscriptions was left in the hands of the Treasurer, it being understood that any of tho Committee would assist in when called upon. It was unanimously agreed that no payment shall be made by the Com- 4 inittee for time or labour on the part of thoso engaged in carrying out any • of tho arrangements, it being expected that both will bo given gratuitously. The Secretary was directed to write for flags for decorative purposes, and to ask Mr Hothcrington for the use of the lion, recently on show Jin his window, to ho used in the ‘ Britannia.’ The Mayor, (Treasurer and Secretary, were appointed an Executive, and the next Committee meeting was fixed for Tuesday, 30th Jannary.
