Borough Council .
A special meeting was held on Fri day evening last, when there were present : His Worship the Mayor (Mr James Mills), and Councillors Edwards, Hirst, Wallace, Gallagher, O’Meagher and Bygrave. Before the meeting commenced Mr Snewin, Glolk to the Town Board, handed over the books and papers of the Town Board to the Mayor, and got a receipt from him for the various vouchers and documents, after which the meeting. The Mayor then read a letter from Mr Snewin resigning his position as Clerk.
It was agreed that Mr Hill be requested to' act as Clerk until a permanent appointment was made. Drainage.—ln connection with the drainage from the rear of the Palace Hotel, it was decided that the acting Clerk write Mr Myers asking him to' place the LSO promised to the Council’s credit, after which the wcrk will be gone on with, the drain to be carried to the boundary of the Palace Hotel, and only liquid sewage be allowed from there to drain. Officials.—-It was decided to invite applications for the position of Town Clerk, Coi'ector, Vainer, and R turning Officer at a salary of 15s per week, also for the position of Inspector of Nuisances and Dog Tax Collector, salary of the former £5 per annum, and for the latter 10 per cent on all collars sold. It was decided that Mr Pavitt be appointed Borough Engineer at 5 per cent commission on all work done. The water-works scheme was discussed at some length, and it was agreed that all the Councillors should visit the proposed sites for the reser voir, with Mr Pavitt. A letter was. received from Mr Gilchrist" in which he advised that the Council had power to al er or amend the Burgess Roll at any time, and that the present bye-laws could be adopted by the Council by special resolution.
