Sugar Beet.

The following items from different sources will be read with interest ‘ The pasbing of the Sugar Beet Bill, in which the Waikato people are so deeply interested, depends entirely upon whether the Premier will or will not give the House an opportunity of dealing with the measure. Mr Lang and Mr Herries, who are naturally doing their utmost in the interests of the Bill, have, I understand, ascertained the views of individual members and feel confident of u a majority in favour of granting Govesgment assistance for the industry. The Premier admits that he promised the people of Hamilton that he would endeavour to give effect to their wishes in this matter, so if he is really in earnest, there should be no difficulty in passing the Bill, as far as the House of Representatives is concerned.’ Mr Thomas Gresham writing to the Waikato Times says :— ‘ The following is from the Auckland Star of the/ 7th instant: ‘ln reply to Mr W. Herries (Bay of Plenty) the Premier said he had given a promise at Hamilton that he would introduce a Bill on the subject at the earliest possible moment and he had done so. The persons who were responsible for the delay in passing the Bill of last session were the member for Waikato and the gentleman who had last spoken. (Iron cal cheers).’ If either of the hon; members above named was in a position to coutradiet the lii ht Hon the Premier, he shauld of course have done so at once. It is not, however, too late to do so even now.
