At Invercargill on Saturday, after three and a-haif hours retirement, the jury, in the case of James Fleming v. the Bank of New Zealand, returned a verdict for £2OOO for plaintiff. The original claim was for £IO,OOO, for dishonouring cheques, which the Bank recalled and paid a few hours later. Arguments for a non-suit will be taken in Dunedin.
It is satisfactory to learn that the damage done to the property of the New Zealand Crown Company, at Karangahake, will not be so much.as was at first reported; Mr R. R Hunt, the company’s attorney, states that the damage done to the races, tramway, and battery will not. amount to £ISOO, as was at first reported, and probably half that amount will repair all- damages. Mr Daw, the general manager, expects to resume milling to-day and mining on Wednesday.
