QUEEN’S BIRTHDAY
In response to an advertisement in Saturday’s issue a meeting was held in the Domain Board office to make arrangements for the proper celebration of' 24te the Hon. A. J Cadman will be present, to open the new Bath-house. There was a large and representative gathering, about 30 being present, and Mr Gavin, chairman of the Domain Board, occupied the chair. . The Chairman, having read the advertisement convening the meeting, explained the circumstances which led up to the occasion, and stated that in view of Mr Cadman’s great interest in the progress and Welfare of Te Aroha, he thought that the townspeople should strain every effort to make the celebration a notable one in the annals of Te Aroha, and mark their appreciation of* Mr Caduian’s personal s .ef forts ia-’Bectiring to'l|(e Domaitt so many benefits; Mr Gavin that the Domain Board had voted £25 towards sports, etc., and that a can vass which he had made of the tradespeople had resulted in £l7 Os 6d being collected. He briefly outlined a programme for the day, the general features of which were, a procession of Volunteers, and day school scholars, to the Domain, the firing of a salute by the Volunteers, singing of the National Anthem by the children, speech by Mr Cadman, children’s treat, and adult and juvenilia sports, during the afternoon, concluding with a banquet in the evening. Mr Gotz, on behalf of the Football Club, stated that they originally intended to banquet Mr Oadman as their Patron, but that they had now derided to widen the scope of operations and' make the function a public one, fixing the price of the tickets at 5s each. A letter was read from the Railway Department stating a special train for Te Aroha would leave Frankton at 8.55 a.m. arriving here ‘about 10.45 a m., leaving again at 5.15 p.m. A special would also leave Paeroa at 11,30 a.m. arriving here at 12 noon. The Department did not feel justified in putting on a special from Auckland, as they thought the season was too far advanced. , . i
An offer from the Band to (supply a Band of 15 performers for £6 was : accepted. It was then derided to appoint two Committees as follows Children’s Sports and Catering Messrs Marsdon, McFarland, Wild. Mclndoe, Clough, J. Main gey and Hill ; Adult Sports Committee Messrs Hodgon, Salmon, Rennick, Edwards, E Smardon, Bosson, Whiteley, W ild, A. Lipsey, and Brennan. The members of the Domain Board to be. members of all committee's ex officio., The Board and' Messrs Whiteley and Marsdpn were appointed to arrange general matters. It was decided to vote the Children’s Committee L2O, the balance, LI 6, and whatever else might be collected, to go to the Adult Sports Committee. It was further decided that the scholars of the Waiorongomai, Te Areba West, and'Waihou Schools be invited to attend, and that the names of Messrs Rennick, Woods and Cousins be added to the children’s sports committee. The various committees will meet at early dates to prepare their programmes. * " A vote of thanks to the Chairman brought the meeting to a close.
