A Good Football Story .
A good story is told in connection with William Bassett, tho famous International and West Bromwich Albion forward’. As Bassett was taking a quiet stroll in West Bromwioh one day he saw some youngsters playing with a small india-rubber ball on a piece of waste ground. He stood watching for a minute or two when, all at once, one of the youngsters came running down the wing exclaiming, ‘took up !; I’m Billy Bassett !’ He was getting along nicely when one burly youth, running across, said, ‘Amyer ? Well, all right; I’m Howard Spencer,’ and so saying, he bowled him (‘Billy’) over into some mud. The discomfited one got up a minute or so later, and while scraping the mud off his trousers, exclaimed, ‘ Well, if that’s the way thou plays Billy Bassett, here’s one who is chucking it I’ - /
