Te Aroha Borough.
At the invitation of the Town Board Mr Gilchrist met the members on Wednesday night-, and at the close of the Domain Board meeting explained to th*m the procedure in the matter of the constitution of the Borough . Various alterations having been explained, the members decided on that course which provided for an immediate election, as they were anxious to get the water supply schema inaugur , ated with the least possible delay. \ They accordingly resolved that the Borough be constituted under Section 2® of c Th® Muncipal Corporations Act ISSS.’ In accordance with this section it was decided to make theJollowing recommendations to the Governor, namely: that Mr Saewin- be Town Clerk and Returning Officer; that the number of Councillors be six; that the election of Mayor take place on Tuesday, 14th June, and : of Councillors on Saturday, 18th June ; and that the first meeting of Council be held on Wednesday, 22nd June, at the Town Board office. These recommendations will be gaaetted in due course. This election, taking place outside the statutory limit, is only a proviaiional one, so-to speak. -As explained elsewhere the Act provides that in> September in each year three members, (who are elegible for re-election) must retire, so that in September next the three Councillors who- secured least votes will retire, and a fresh election to fill the vacancies will take place.. The Council will then remain undisturbed (at least so far as elections go) for the next twelve months. The Mayor will also have to submit himself for re-election in November, before he gets fairly started on his yearly term of office.
