Paeroa - Thames Railway.

The work on the railway between Paeroa and the Thames is progressing, the fine , weather that we have had having greatly assisted in the prosecution of the work. The first lift of the - ballasting is now finished from Purir? to Paeroa, nothing iiiil/eolid stone from ~ the quarry being for the port* pose, so that there wUr-iiot be the dust onlthis.portioh of the line when it is running that there is:^between Paeroa and Te Aroha,; .which causes so great inconvenience-? and, is a . nuisance to travellers. .

The Puriri bridge will be completed this week. There are three 40 feet spans-trussed, and two - 20 feet spans, the whole built of iron-bark timber is a moat substantial and structure. There are three more K 9? os in. a very forward condition, viz. T’at the outlet at Boyle’s farm, Matatoke, and WaiTahoe, and the piles are -being driven in forthe Kirikiri bridge, which, is the last bridge on the line between Paeroa arid the Thames. The number of men po\v ffaployed on. the line is %Bcfat 90, but ho w that the first lift of ballasting has been com pJeted! there is every; probability that, the number of hands will be reduced. ■■ - , * [ln yesterday’s ‘ Heraldflii wire wa*p published, to the effect that the Cabiait has authorised an> expenditure of £3OOO on the Paeroa-Te Aroha road This is probably an error, as doubtless it is the Thames-Te Aroha Railway which is meant.]: ,
