Gordon Settlement Notes.
(From our own correspondent)
The district looks quite fresh and green after the rooent rain, grftas is "plentiful and the supply of milk is abundant, so it is to be hoped that the creamery will not break down again this season.
After having been closed for a fortnight owing to some breakage of the machinery, the creamery has re-opened and is, f)r the present, in fair going order, '
Before the creamery is required for use next season it would be well for the suppliers to appoint a management committee whose duty would be to see that the creamery is provided with a suitable engine and boiler, so as to prevent such mishaps as may from time to time necessitate its closing, thus causing losses to the suppliers which they can ill afford. In all probability there will he a very great increase in the supply of milk next season, so if those immediately concerned are wise, they will insist on having new machinery throughout, and stand no more such, tinkering as has been going on from the opening of the institution up to the present time. If the district is worthy of a creamery, it is worthy of a thoroughgoing one and not a half-time concern. The settlement con tinues to go ahead slowly but surely. The Board of Education has intimated to the local School Committee that it has been decided to build a teacher’s house in the Gordon before the winter sets in.
The library subscriptions will be due at the end of the currenc month, and as it is intended to purchase a large number of new books for winter reading, members are earnestly requested to forward their subscriptions to the librarian at their earliest convenience.
