Waiorongomai.

(From our own Correspondent.) A very enjoyable social was held in the school-room on Friday evening, when a very large number from Te Aroha favoured us with their presence. It is very pleasing indeed to note the way in which Te Aroha and Waiorongomai * people patronise each other’s amusements. The jealousy which is so very common in almost all neighbouring country districts seems to be conspicuous by its absence here. Smardon’s coaches were engaged by the visitors, and they express themselves as having had a jolly good time. The promoters are to be congratulated on the success of their first social of the season, and judging from the number present it was a success financially. The Waiorongomai School Committee have at last been successful in getting the Board of Education to build a teacher’s residence. Tenders have been called for the erection of a six-roomed house, and Mr Hirst’s (Arch Hill) tender of £257 10s has been accepted. Mr McFarland’s many friends hear with regret of his continued illness. It is to be hoped he will soon be well enough to take his intended trip, and that he will be quite restored to health. The old Premier Hotel-building has been purchased by Mr Martin Murphy from the Campbell-Ehrenfried Company. and a staff of workmen is employed in pulling it down. Mr Murphy' has great faith in the Waiorongomai mines proving a success in the near future, and he intends building five or six cottages with the timber. This will supply a long-felt want here
