Te Aroha School Committee
The monthly, meeting of this Committee was held in the school-room last night, when there were present : Messrs Gilchrist (in the chair), Mncky Wallace, Robinson, and Hill (secretary). The Committee decided to apply for another pupil teacher in lieu of Miss H. Armstrong, who has now left the district with a view of returning to Queensland, and to suggest the appointment of Miss Fawcett, at present at Waitekauri. In'view of - the fact that an extra week’s holidays had been given at Glirifetmas, it wrs unanimously resolved that'the school be closed at Easter time for two days only—Good Friday and Easter Monday. The school will consequently close on the Thursday afternoon preceding Good Friday, and open again for the week on Tuesday morning. The question of absentees was again under discussion, there being some regular offenders in this respect. Tho 1 advisability of putting in force the Compulsory Clause was considered, but the Committee were reluctant to take, such extreme measures, more especially as if; would result in putting a few heads of families to a goo 1 deal of trouble and expense, through J having to appear before the Court, where they would no doubt be summarily dealt with. .
