Mining Notes.

Mining matters are still in a somewhat dormant state just now, but in the near future we are expecting a revival. W ork in the big tunnel is progressing; a few prospectors are at work. at Quartzville; the work of conveying the ore from the Tui to the Rev J. Campbell’s battery will shortly commence, operations for treating the same will be started as soon as possible. Messrs Coutts, Inspector of Mines, andc McKay, Government Geologist, : paid a visit, to the various mining properties in the Te Puke last week. • These gentlemen expressed themselves favourably as to the properties of Te Puke as a gold-bearing country. Mr McKay thinks that the auriferous belt extends for a considerable distance north and south, and is probably several miles wide.
