Manawaru.

(From our own Correspondent.)

The heavy rain on Thursday soon turned the dust on the roads into mud and made walking quite unpleasant; but the rain will no a vast amount of good, aniJ was welcomed by all. The swamp fires are now a thing of the past, as they have nearly burnt themselves out, and the heavy rain stops thorn spreading any farther... Farmers are very busy surface sowing grass seed on the swamps where the fire has destroyed the grass, and it. is hoped the weather will remain mild so the young grass will obtain a good firm root before winter.

Mr Woods, our popular - schoolmaster, Te Aroha We*st, must be congratulated upon the energetic way in which he has pushed along in getting the school fence completed.
