Town Board.
The monthly meeting of the Town Board took place on Wednesday night, when there were present—Commissioners Gavin (in the chair), Knock, Gallagher, By'grave, and Macky. Morgantown Rbntb.— The Warden’s office, Thames, advised that they had placed £53 Os lld to the Board’s credit, being revenue for period ended January 1, 1898. Valuation Roix.— ‘The ValuerGeneral forwarded valuation roll for inspection, and asked that it should be returned (with all objections) by 21st inst. The Chairman stated that he had instructed the Clerk to wire to Wellington that the time allowed was too short.
Sanitation— Dr. Smith wrote calling attention to the fact that the bye-law forbidding sipk closets within the. Town boundaries was being practically ignored. He impressed on the Board the importance of having this matter attended to immediately, as otherwise, sooner or later, the town would be visited by some Bdriou® He suggested the institution of a night-soil service, the cost to be shared equally by the householders and the Board.:—The members generally agreed on the necessity for an improvement in the present system being effected, but thought, as they had gone all through the hot weather, they might as well postpone taking action for another month, especially as the result of the Borough petition has not yet been ascertained. Ho trsn in Pound.—The Clerk reg>rted that the lessee of the pound (Mr . Smardon) declined. put a new chimney in this house aauTequested by the Board.—lt was to remove the present chimney, and board up the fireplace. s c
Tenders for^Abvertisino. — The following for the Board's advertising were/received: ‘Te Aroha tnes,’ 8d per inch ;• 'Te Aboha News* ared to do all advertising for twelve months for nothing.—lt was decided to accept the lowest .tender. All the Board’s advertising will therefore appear in the ‘ News. - ’ Notice of Motion. —Commissioner Mackie gave notice that at the next meeting be w- odd move “That the Government be urged to extinguish the Native title over Morgantown. Accounts —The Ohinemuri County
Council sent in a voucher showing the Boards share of cost of administration of the Licensing Act to be £49 l Is 6d. The Chairman thought that this charge was not excessive, and. moved th it payment be postponed till more particulars could be ascertained.—-The accounts of J. Jackson (£SB 8s) and P. Baine (£29 4s) war© also held over for an explanation. The arc unt of W. Carmichael for broken metal was passed subject., to verification of measurement by the Chairman. Financed —The Clerk submitted the following statement -of the Board’s finances:—Or. balance at Bank. £166 16s 8d; cash in hand, £3 13s; less accounts to. be passed, £27 14s lid; Cr.balance at date, £142 14s 9d. Accounts.— -The following accounts were passed for payment: —J. White, 15s; P. Snewin, £6 12s 2d ; R. Michael, £8 Is ; rent of P.O. box, IQs ; Te Aroha Times, 9s ; P Snewin and Co., £7 sa; O’Grady, 19s 3d ; EL Keesing, £1 18s 6d ;L. Wright, 14s; F, Loaibett * 12s.
