Silverstream Murder Case.

PRISONER FOUND GUILTY.

SENTENCED TO DEATH.

Wellington. Judge Edwards, summing up in the murder case against Frank Philpctt, alias Stanhope, occupied the Court until twenty minutes to six p.m. The jury returned at twenty minutes past eight p.m. with a verdict of guilty. An application to reserve a point as to the admission of evidence was refused. Prisoner received the verdict with composure. Asked if he had anything to say why the sentence oi death should not be passed, Philpottin a clear voice thanked his counsel for his efforts on his behalf, and forgave those whom he alleged had sworn false testimony. Judge Edwards then, addressing the prisoner, passed the sentence of death, and expressed the opinion that he was .justly convicted.
