Volunteer Notes.
THR.Te-Aroha Rifle Volunteers paraded: on= Thursday eveningdast at Smardon’s Hull foxtheir annual inspection. of arms.and' all pro-t perty issued to them by the Defence Departs meat. There.was-a good' attendance cf 4,7all ranks, Capt. Whitpley in command; Gapti. Grant, District Adjutant, was the, inspectingofficer, and made a. close examination, of the. roenJs uniforms, "and; appointments,, after•which he explained; to, the company, that all Government property not seen before the end’ of the volunteer year could- be chargeable against the capitation, grant... The Adjutant spoke favorably of-the condition, in which he had found the, rifles and accoutrements, and said' that a great improve meht in that respect had taken place since his previous; visit. Much credit was due to all concerned for the manner in. which workhad been carried out during the year, Capt. Whiteley’s command, and that that officer had the annual capitation rolls and all other returns nearly completf dywhich.showed that 66 men (three over the maximum) had made themselves efficient, In, December last the corps, on toing notified to, paradjp for ipspeotion vol'ey and. independant firing* made a record by placing 63 men of all ranks in the field in response, to the ordet. - * / The Adjutant impressed on the company the necessity ofworking shoulder to shoulder and that each man should consider that as 'a member of the corps he had a tdacp aduu to perform, b/fi Slrngi nothing oould retard their progress, = The Easter Encampment would be held at Auckland, and that no doubt the Te Aroha cor-s would be well represented; on that occasion.
