Volunteer Notes
A meeting of gentlemen interested' in the formation in the Auckland district of a mounted volunteer corps was held at the Drill Hall, Auckland, on Monday night, Colonel Banks presiding. The proposal was discussed at some length, the Chairman intimating; that several in the suburbs and outdistricts had notified that they wereprepared to join if a corps could beformed. A further meeting- is called! for this evening, when all interested were invited to attend. ' Volunteer corps, says the Herald,, are rapidly springing up in the country* districts, where a lively interest is: evinced in the movement. At Coromandel the primary arrangements fora rifle corps are being carried out, and' at Whangarei a mounted corps is under course of formation The recentlyformed corps at Karangahake have erected a fine-drill-shed, and similarsteps are being taken by the Waihk volunteers.
