Bond Contest .

Napier, Tuesday. The band contest opened to-day, with bands* own selections. Up to ten o’clock, seven bands had played, the general opinion being that up to that time Wellington Garrison was an easy first.

A telegram from Wellington appeared in the evening paper, yesterday, charging the Ohistehuroh Engineers* Band with outrageous conduct in the hotel where they stopped. The band denied the allegations, and were supported by two guests who were there at the same time. To-day, the committee of management telegraphed to the proprietor of the hotel on the subject. The reply was, that he was surprised at the telegram, as that was the first he heard of the matter. This telegram was loudly cheered, wh en rend out in the theatre, before the contest commenced.
