Waihi School of Mines.
The above institution is making rapid strides under the sole instructorship of Mr Morgan, and owing to the enthusiasm displayed by the secretary (Mr P. Hennesy) and the committee, the school has become one of the most popular institutions at Waihi. The students number 144: at the various classes. The Hon. A. J. Cadman, Minister of Mines, was so pleased with the progress being made that to-day he informed the secretary that the Mines Department would pay half the instructor’s salary. The Minister also promised ® special grant of £SO towards the purchase of chemicals, a theodolite, and ofcherrequirements.
We would very much like to see a similar school to this started in Te Aroha, as there are numbers of young men iu Te Aroha who would doubtless attend, and derive a great benefit from the same. There are several gentlemen in our midst who would make capital instructors.
