TE AROHA HACK SPORTS .
The hacks sports held on the Te 4foha racecourse on Saturday last, pegged off very successfully. The weather was beautifully fine, and in consequence there was a large number 4 0 witness the fun. The attendances h estimated at two hundred. Most cf^he business establishments instead of The Brass Band rendered sweet-music, which enlivened the proceedings greatly. The followingare the results of the different events : Maiden.—Beeson’s Taihoa 1; Castle’s Mermaid 2. There , were seven starters in this race and a very interesting finish-was made.^ The hurdle race.—Only four faced the starter for this event, which resulted as follows : Rennick’s Memo 1 ; Lipisey’s Recruit 2. s . The Pony .race attracted a field' ol six, and this was one of the best events of the day. Tonga’s Victor was the first to pass the post with Davenport’s Pannie close up. . v-, The Champion handicap.—A field of four saddled up for this event, but the race was spoiled by a very indifferent start. Castle’s Rebel was first Jackson’s Topsy second. The handicap fotrace of 100 yards was competed in by nine of our running men. The finish was a very close one, Pavitt breasting the tape r .g'f with Reynolds very close. ‘ *;• The afternoon’s sport was concluded w'th the Hurry Scurfy. There were ten horses entered for this eveiit, and the finish was a very interesting one resulting in Conlston’s Prairie liass being first, and Brumby’s Letty 2nd. The sports were finished about 5 p.m. The date of the next sports is not yet; definitely decided, but will probably be held some time in January.
