Balderdash is by Rouser from Mischief (one of the best trotters New Zealand has' produced, and whose victories on the track in Wanganui, Christchurch, and Dunedin aw too well known to need comment). Balderdash is a dark, dapple chestnut, possessing rare-bobe and muscle, witn theyery best of action, and beautiful temper. As a performer lie has shown that for sty le and speed he lias few equals, having in one day on the New Brighton cOurpe won the Maiden Trot (two miles), and (he Three-mile Saddle Trot, finishing up by running second in a field ot sixteen in the Two-mile Trot. At the Rangrora Autumn Meeting he won the 'Twosmi.e Trot, and at the Christchurch Show he was winning j the Two-mile Trot easy when his girth broke and be was puded up. In March, 1892, at the Onslow Trotting Club’s meeting, though just having finished a big season at the stud, and only trained about a fortnight, he ran unplaced in the Threemile Saddle Trot, but finished a good second in the Wheel- Race from, scratch after getting badly away. In March, 1894, at the Otahuhu Trotting Club’s meeting, lie won the Two mile Harness Trot ea<y, In the Show Ring he has taken First Prize every time that he has been shown, last time (1893) winning the special prize cup and beating the English horse Perfection (imp), winner of over 20 first and champion, prizes, and never befere beaten. He has also been twice second and once highly commended for carriage sire. • ". . ■ Balderdash’s dam Mischief by Young Diomedes, sire of Victor (who lias a Threeup o record in the saddle of 8 min I.L sec.) out of The Widow (imp ,) Norfolk Trotter. Besides having gained a number of prizes as a carriage mare, she has produced a number of fast horses, among them being Moonlight, who left the colony, bolding the rec ird then of 8 min 8 and Spider who at present lipids the thre--»tnile saddle r (iord for New Zealand of 7 unin 59 secs. Rouser, by Messenger (imp.) from Kate O’Sliane,' is one of the most successful sires of jumping and trotting horses -in Canterbury.- He is also »full brother to Tam O’Slmnter, a horse that holds more first prizes : for getting carriages horses than any hors • in New Zealand. Balderdash's,young stock have already won several trotting races in Canterbury,. one of tlmm (Stockholm) putting the two miles behind her in 5 min 27 sec. . It will thus be seen that Balderdash, both, from breeding and performances, possesses rare credentials to recommend him to the use of breeders of roadsters, hunting or carriage stock of any kind.
