BUTTER EXPORT TRADE.

A deputation, consisting of Messrs Massey, T. Thompson, Lawry, and Lang, waited on the Secretary of Agriculture on Wednesday re freezing butter for export in the Auckland district. Mr Massey introduced the business, and referred to tolograms received from Mr Spragg and others interested in butter. Messrs Kirkbride, N. Hunt, Fisher, and Cross, of Napier, were also present" The Secretary, in reply, stated that in his opinion frozen butter was liable to more damage in transit between Auckland and Wellington than that sont direct from the factories and not subjected to freezing, as the thawingprocess, which inevitably takes place in transit, deteriorates the article. He further pointed out that there was no means of preventing the dumping of butter on the Wellington wharfs, which subjected it to great risk. He also informed the deputation that nearly all butter made in Auckland was shipped last year froni Wellington. He, however, promised the deputation that nothing would be done ro the matter for some days, and he would, before doing anything finally consult the deputation.
