OHINEMURI.
(From our own Correspondent).
Paeroa, Friday. The carpenters’ hammer may still be heard going here week after week, and it seems that as fast as one build' ing is completed another is in course of erection. The additions to Mr G. Crosby’s hotel are being pushed ahead as fast as possible, and a month or so should see the work completed. When finished this will be the largest building in the district, and make a great difference to the appearance of the lower township, The finishing touches are now being put to the new theatre, * and arrangements are already b/"’n> i made to hold a grand opening nigh.-. Our footballers journey to Te Aroha to-morrow, when it is hoped they will give a good account of themselves. The Rev F. G. Evans conducted service in the Church of England here morning and, evening on Sunday last, and had large congregations on each occasion. The Wesleyan denomination are shortly to hold a series of evangelical services in this district, to be conducted by the Rev. W. Salter, of Gisborne. New faces of barristers and solicitors may always be met in our streets nowadays, and the cry is “still they come.’’ MrW. Kelly has presented a petition from 371 residents of Ohinemuri praying that Parliament will take into consideration the circumstances in the case of Charles Harley, of Waihi, convicted of attempting to dissuade certain persons from giving evidence on an assault ease at Paeroa, and make some recommendation in his favour. The residents of this place (at least most of them) are anxiously looking 1 forward to the completion of the railway line between here and Paeroa, and I hope to see the work commenced at no distant date.
