RELIGIOUS INSTRUCTION IN SCHOOLS • Wellington, Saturday.' The Rev. A. S. Jones, and 368 Feilding settlers, have petitioned the House through Mr Stevens for religious instruction in schools by the Irish National Test-book. A SAD OCCURRENCE AT CAMBRIDGE DEATH OF TWO LOVERS Cambridge, Monday. Two *aad domestic bereavements have occurred here. Ou Sunday morning Miss Elate Fitzgerald, daughter of Mr H. Fitzgerald, a well- known resident at Cambridge West, died after a lingering illness cf consumption. She was engaged to Mr R. E. Bridgman, who hab also been in a low ctate of health for some time, and the shock of her. death produced fits from which Jie died this afternoon. He was a promising young man, only 29 years of age. Widespread sympathy is felt for the two families.
ACCIDENT TO A RAILWAY GUARD. Rotorua, Monday. The Auckland train due here ou Saturday at 7.12 p.m. arrived at 9.45 p.m. On arrival at Tarukouga .(Guard Turner was missing, and a search party found him down the embankment near Mamaku station unconscious, and his j and his head badly cut and his ' a,'k hurt. Ho had fallen off the train ■ when passing from a carriage to the , van. Dr Ginders is in attendance.
