PIAKO COUNTY COUNCIL.
The ordinary monthly mooting of the Piako County Council was held in the Council Chambers, Momnsville, on the Bth. inst. Present : Crs Chepmell (chairman), Harrison, Brown, Hunt, Gavin, Herries, and Hodgson. Minutes of previous mooting were read and confirmed, Mr N. A. Larney resigned his seat on the Council owing to many private duties. The Chairman expressed the regret of the Council in receiving Or Larney’s resignation. . > Or Seddon wrote asking leave of absence through illness. Granted two months.
OOREESnONDKNC®. Prom Promotion of Goldmining League. From Mr Bremner, dog registrar, asking authority to sue for the dog tax.— Resolved that be empowered to sue for th*) recovery of Secretary Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, reminding the Council of its indebtedness^^^gj^g^th^ • c.Tlie clerk was instructed to remind the receiver of goldfield revenue of amounts due and not yet received. - , - The clerk was instructed to sue Mr G. Lipsey for the amount of £2 ; 18s for unpaid rates, on which judgment had been obtained.
Mr Gavin reported having gone over Mulchoy’s drain, and recommended that he should be allowed tho sum of £3 for clearing.- -Resolved that Council approve of Or Gavin s action. From Wm. Shepherd, asking the county to clear the top track up tho fern spur to the buck reef,—Cr Gavin reported on the work required, and suggested that the scrub : should bo cleared and put in order. Cr Gavin further stated that if the revenue came in from the ground that hadbeen pegged out the Council'would receive at least £2OO in gold duty this yoar. ■ , - Resolved that Cr Gavin be empowered to get the work done. Cr Gavin was instructed to report on what work required to be done oii the goldfield with a view to applying for Government grant. ■ Resolved that the timber and pipes required for the Patatere riding be obtained.
Mr Wattom’s report was read and approved. A letter was received from Mr Roach complaining about the water-tables on the road near.his property. Foreman of Works to attond to tho matter. A letter from Mr E. Y. Cox asking that the Diagonal Road should be attended *to as it is in urgent need of repairs. Cr Herries was instructed to spend 'the sum of £5. A letter from Mr W.S. A lion ,pointing out'the badstate of tho Te ArohaMorrinsville road.
The clerk was instructed to reply to Mr Allen that the road would be put in repair as soon as weather permits, - ,Mr Mahood, Foreman of Works for; Southern Division, sent in his report,, which was read. //.
Resolved on the motion of Or Hodg-' son, seconded by Or Harrison, that the request be adopted, and that he be allowed 2 men for I month. 4 ' With:reference to the account from the Waikato County Council rie costs under the Alcholic Sale Control Act.— Rosolyod that the. account be referred back for particulars;. r Or Chepmell moved that if tho subscriptions roach the sum of £35 tho Council appeal against the: Supreme Court decision re the' Piako v.- Waikgto Councils ~. y. ; '; Mr Gavin said he was of the opinion that as, the Council had already two judgments upon the matter the Council had gone far enough and it should be dropped. •' Or Cheprhell moved that the Council inform the Waikato Council'-that the Piako County Council is prepared to pay . its .pioportion of Licensing expenses, . Mr Herries brought up the matterof the road formation between Gordon Settlement and. Matamata and asked that the. Council should vote a sum of money towards the cost. Or Hunt moved, seconded by Cr Harrison, that the Council contribute the sum of £SO towards the work, bn condition that the Government carry out the whole formation. , Carried. Mr Clifford waited upon the Council and .drew attention ffi>' tho bad state of thebPiako Hill. - .
