BRUTAL ATTEMPT AT MURDER.

Patea, August 3. A brutal attempt at murder has taken place at Hukatere. A "half caste of Waitotara named Wire Te Kuahu attacked his wife and inflicted terrible wounds on her head and face, and threw her on the fire and cleared out. The woman was found insensible and was removed to the hospital, where she now lies in a very critical state. The hut presents an awfuP appearance. It is bespotte.d with blood.
