DEATH OF JUDGE RICHMOND
Wellington, August s. Justice Richmond died at his; residence last evening from pnuemonia and inflammation of the lungs after seven days illness, aged 74 years He was bom in London in 1821 was called to the bar frota the 'Middle Temple in 1845,’ After..practisingin England for seven years ho married a sister of the late Sir Harry Atkinson and with the latter arrived in New Plymouth in 1856, where he received the appointment of Provincial Attorney. He;became a member of the House' of Representatives in the same year and Subsequently'was appointed a Minister of the Crown, holding offices as Colonial Secretary, Colonial Treasure* and Minister of Native. Affairs, ■ ing office'until 1861, when he went, to Dunedin, where h'd practised till the following year, when he-was appointed a Judge of the Supreme Court. Deceased leaves a widow, fivo daughter;!,, two of whom are married, and four sons.
