MINING.
TE AROHA. During the week more than usual amount of interest has been-evinced in local mining matters. Several meetings of shareholders "have been held and other new claims have beeni ap plig.d for, amongst these we note the securing of the mine formally knownas the Morning Star or Golden Crown. Some excellent returns were obtained from this property by Messrs Hornibrook and Cleary, who sunk a winze on the reef for about 60 feet, from which they secured good gold varying from &oz to 2|-oz per ton. They were obliged to give up work owing to the water . trouble, which they were unable to contend with. A low level was then put in some 60ft. below the winze with the idea of catting the reef at the low level, and also to take away the water. The tunuel has been, driven a distance of 320 feet and the reef may be cut within the next .50 ft. The syndicate which have secured'this desirable property consists of 25 .of Te Aroha’s principle business men, ; who purpose to continue the tunnel and cut the reef, they are very sanguine of success. The claim contains some ;30 acres, and is situated between Te Aroha and Waiorongomai and will in future be known as the Golden Crown.
STONEY GREEK PROSPECTING SYNDICATE. - A meeting of shareholders in the above syndicate was held in Mr Sne win’s office on Thursday evening. There was a large attendance, Mr T Gavin occupied the chair. Mr Snewin, secretary of the association, explained that he had called the meeting together to consider a proposal made for the mine on behalf a French syndicate. ■ :It was resolved that the price to be asked should be £2,000 with’a deposit of £2OO.
Mr Hoskins, the mining expert, is expected in Te Aroha next week to report on the property for the vendors, also to take out. a small parcel, of stone to send to the principles at home.. The prospectors reported that the reef, which is a well defined one, has been opened out at a much lower level than where the last crushing was taken from, the reef looks exceedingly well it has increased in size as it goes down, being only about 2ft 4in. wide on the outcrop, but. about 4ft 7in. at the low level.
This property is now bouuded by the Golden Crown, All Nations, and H t Springs No. 2, all of which, have excellent prospects.
CADMAN L.H. 'A largo and representative meeting of .shareholders in; the Cadman L.H. was held at Waiorongomai on Mondajl- - Mr E Gallagher was voted to. the .chair. . Considerable routine business was-transacted. . , ;
The prospectors reported having cleaned up the intermediate level and that the . small reef out of which a stope has been taken shows good gold, also that they have discovered the reef known . as. Hawkins’ reef, which is about 3ft wide and carrying course gold. It was deeided to take out a few tons as a trial crushing.; Negotiations are at present going on for tho purchase of this property by European capitalists.
SOUTHERN MINING. ' MR ZIMAN’S PURCHASES. Greymouth, Wednesday. At a meeting of the Wealth of Nations shareholders this evening i't was- announced that Mr David Ziman purchased all of the Weaith of Nations property at Reef ton for' £2166 .13s 4d, equal to If d per scrip, and deposits .£SOO in cash to defray cost of prospecting. He also purchased the Royal Venus and the low level tunnel. He transacted purchases to the extent of £30,000 to-day.
AUSTRALIAN MINING. Perth, Wednesday. A party has arrived from BirkV n3w find, hear .Mount „ Malcolm, with a quantity of rich picked specimens weighing 2cwt, which yielded at the rate of 15,000 ounces to the ton. Cummins and Thorn nave discovered a new line of reef on the Dundas, Road', which shows rich gold. A rush has set in, and two miles of leases have been pegged off;
