SUSPICIOHS DEATH OF A WOMAN. Palmerston North, July 29. . On Saturday a young woman named Alice Josephine Marshall, of Wellington, died after a brief illness. At the Inquest this morning the jury returned a verdict of death from blood poisoning, '..and a rider was added to the effect that there was suspicious circumstances connected with the death, which warrant the police in fully enquiring , It was stated at th e inquest that the police are in possession of important evidence.

ALLEGED LIBEL ON THE HON. J. G. WARD. Wellington, Monday. The Hon. Mr J- G. Ward has instructed his.solicitbrs to issue a writ against John McQueen, of Kuapdale, Southland, claiming £IO,OOO damages for lidel, alleged to be contained in a circular issued on the Bth inst. in connection with the frozen meat trade.

The postponement of the Financial Statement until Tuesday will probably give the House an opportunity of discussing theßill to amend the Licensing Act promoted by the Temperance party. This measure is set down for Wednesday, and as the debate is not likely to commence before Friday, an interesting discussion may be expected.

THE DEAN CASE. Wellington, Monday. When the Appeal Court resumed the Bench said it was unnecessary to call on Mr McDonald to reply. The j udges were unanimous that there was no case to answer. They would, he said, give their reasons in writing on Wednesday. The case of Mr 3 Dean was not considered by the Executive Connell today, but a special meeting is convened for 9.30 to-morrow morning to decide whether the death sentence shall he commuted or carried out.
