BAND CONCERT.

On Thursday evening last the concert and dance in aid of the Te Aroha Brass Band instrument fund, took place in the Public Hall. The weather appeared threatening in the early part, of the day, but towards evening cleared up;- and those desirous of attending the concert were favoured with fine weather. Quite a number came in from Waiorongomai and Waihon to be present, thus showing the, interest taken in the welfare, of the band. The members of the band rendered several selections outside the hall prior to the time of commencing the concert, and by eight o'clock the hall was very comfortably filled Mr T. Q-aviu, chairman of the Town and Domain Boards, occupied the chair. The first item on the programme was an, overture, ‘ Felicia/ by the members of the band, which was well received; and showed the advancement they have made in handling their instruments under the able conductorship of.Mr J. Gordon; Mr Gage Brown, sang ' The Old Brigade ’; song, ‘ Going to Market,’ Miss French ; the cornet duet, ‘Larboard Watch,’ was rendered in a very efficient manner by Miss Sibley and Mr Gordon, and responded to an imperative encore ; Miss Stanley maintained her reputation as a .violin player in her solo, ’ Grand March,’ she was received with applause and responded to a ra-call; song. ‘ The letter that never came,’ by Miss Craig, was given in a very pleasing style, and bowed in response to a well deserved encore; the comic song, ‘Runaway Musketeer,’ was very well rendered by Mr Hanby, who was ably assisted by Messrs Gordan, Hunter, Buchan, Wheeler and Hood, this comic selection created roars of laughter., and broughtthe firstpart of the programme to a close Part II commenced with a brass quartette ‘Shades of Evening,’ by Messrs Gordon, Buchan, Hunter and 1 Everett; song, ‘Sweet Marie,’ Miss E. Wainwright, who responded to an encore ; comic song -by Mr L. Buchan, was well given and encored ; song, ‘Laddie,’ Miss Hirst, encored; the corn'etsolo by MrCooke, of Paeroa, gave a very good exhibition of cornet solo playing; ‘-Sailor's Hornpipe,’ Messrs F. and H. Tonge; song ‘ The London Prig,’ Mr Hanby. At the conclusion of the programme the Chairman, on behalf of the band, thanked those present for their presence, and also those who had so ably assisted in the carrying out of the programme. At the close of the the hall was cleared for which was kept up with spirit for some hours ; Mr J. White acted as while the Band provided excelldffPdance music.
