TERRIBLE TRAGEDY .

THREE CHILDREN MURDERED.

' Sydney, June 27. A shocking tragedy occurred at Redfern this morning.

' A man, Thos. Brown, greengrocer, met the Rev Mr Do,wd, and told him he had cut the throats of his three children, Thomas aged 6, Charlotte 5, and Joseph 3, early: in the day, and hadTeft them in the house, ready for burial. ‘

As Brown was apparently suffering from drink, Mr Dowd did not believe* him, but the man showed him a bloodstained razor with, which he had .done the deed, and said he intended to surrender himself to the police after he had seen his wife.

. Mr Dowd then, informed/the police, who* visited the house/ and found the poor children lying in bed dead, witb their heads bound up in white clothes, and terrible gashes in their throats. Meanwhile Brown had gone to the police station and asked them to go to the house, but as he was supposed to be drunk, no attention was paid to him. When, he was eventually arrested, ;he produced the razor, and said he had murdered the children to save them suffering. Mrs Brown left her husbaud a few weeks ago owing to bis ill-treatment and neglect? and went to live with another man. Brown discovered her whereabouts, haunted the house, and threatened vengeance* He went this morning, demanded to see his wife, and hinted he had committed the deed to make her regret her abandonment of her children. It is believed he also intended to murder her. Since his wife left him Brown had been drinking heavily.
