TOWN BOARD.
SPECIAL MEETING.
A special meeting of the Te Aroha Town Board was held on Saturday last, all members being present. The following tenders for repairs to Burgess-3treefc were received:—B. Donelly, £l3 5s ; Johnson and Smith, £l3 15s ; P. A. Swnev, £lO 14s; M. J. Gainey, £9 15s; W. White, £22 17s; R. Hepburn, £l2 ; J. Johnson, £lO 16s.
Com Gallagher proposed and Com Hetherington seconded, that M. J. Gainey’s tender be accepted .Carried. Mr J. Bew wrote asking -the Board to reconsider his position re the Bridge-street contract, asking that He be allowed to cease work for 2 or 3 months on account of the bad weather, also that the Board would consult a practical engineer re the amount of work done, that he might be paid for the same. -■
. The Chairman said the contractor evidently was still of opinion that he was under paid, the 25 per cent which was held under. the Workman’s Lein Act could be paid to the men, but not to the contractor.
The amount in hand still owing was £l7 10s.
Com Gavin proposed and Com Hetherington seconded, that J. Bew be allowed an extension of time, 4 months, to complete his contract, provided that he keeps the street in repair. Carried. In the event of the contractor failing to maintain road the contract be forfeited.
Com Gavin proposed and Com Gallagher seconded, that Mr McAndrew, engineer, be asked to estimate the work done, and the contractor paid accordingly Resolved that Mr Lavery build White’s bridge on Church-s Lee • for the sum of £3 15s.
This being all the business the Board rose.
