Co-operatives v. Townies. [By Drop-Kick.] The football match between the employees op. the co-operative works and the townies, took place on the new ground on Saturday afternoon last. Considerable interest was manifested in this match/ both sides being confident of success; but as the result proved the Townies are the superior te&m, the game ending : Townies, 14 points; Co-operatives, 3. Only one goal was successfully landed over the cross-bar out of some 5 tries obtained, L. Buchan being the successful kicker. The game from start to finish appeared to be in the hands of the Townies, they “having the most trained men, and practice always tells;. The Cooperatives, who were captained by Mr Briton, played a . very determined game, and on several occasions were close on their adversarys’ line. Sage, Thompson, Nicholls, J. Dickson, Joe, Briton, and Patty were the graters for the Co-operatives, while, “ Big Dick ” packed well in the scrums, but was a bit too heavy to do much running. The Townies were unable to put their best team in the field, ■ the Captain, Vice-Captain, and several other dashing players being conspicuous by their absence. J. Maingay acted as captain for the Townies. For the Townies : O. Lipsey, Allen, Maingay, F. Lipsey and Cornes were the most prominent. 0. Lipsey scored 2 tries, while Alien and Maingay obtained one each;, \

Mr Keesing acted as referee, giving general satisfaction to both sides. It is understood that a return match will take place at no distant date.

The Selection Committee of the Te Aroha F.C. have picked the following team to play against Waitekauri in the match on Saturday next Fullback, Pocock ; three • quarters, Pavitt, Woods, Gregory ; halves, Kirby, L. Buchan, Keesing; forwards, Lewis, Smardon, Rennick, Hamilton, Cornes, William, McLean and Briton.

The return match between the Te Aroha and Waiorongomai school boys will take place this afternoon on Fiddlers’ Green, near the old racecourse .
