MURDER AND CANNIBALISM
Sydney, June 16. - News by the steamer Kelloo ' states that two Sydney traders, named Samuel Smith and David-Kerr, were murdered and eateu by' the natives of Rendover Island, one of the Solomon Group. The vessel belonging to the traders was, after being looted, destroyed. ' _ - -
GARDINAL MORGAN ON CHURCH UNION.

Cardinal Moran, lecturing on the proposed union of the two Churches, said the Pope’s appeal for the coming together of Christianity and addressed Hot only to the Anglican, but to the eastern churches. Melbourne, J une 17. At P a meoting of depositors in the Colonial Bank of Australia a scheme for re-arraugement waaadppted. This provides for a reduction of interest from 4£ pe o-mt to or 2 per, cent if loaned, for a period of five years, and theieafier at current rates, with an extension of time for the principal moneys. The deposit receipt holders are to be represented by three mem-, hers on the directorate. Until every obligation to depositors is met, ordinary shareholders afe not to receive anything, while preferential shareholders are to. remain in the same position as in tho original scheme.
