- Mails for United Kingdom,' Europe, etc., via San Francisco, close at Te Aroha Post Office on Friday, 14th, at 6.55 a.m., —due in London on 17th July. - Paeroa continues its agitation for a postal delivery in that town;, The County Council had the matter under considera* tion at its last meeting, and sent the following letter to the Postmaster-General. “ The Ohinemuri County Council respectfully urge that a postal delivery be established at Paeroa, as a great increase of population and business has arisen here, owing to the great and rapid development of the goldfields during the present year, The Council believes that this urgent want; could.be supplied without an increase of the present postal staff. —H. P. Barry, Chairman.” The Postmaster-General hassubsequently wired to the effect that tile matter will be taken into consideration. Mr H. H. Adams has submitted a . proposal to the Ohinemuri- County Council to light Paeroa with the’ electric light op condition that he is granted the exclusive right for 21 years to erect poles to carry electric light wires for the purpose of supplying light and motive power to the Paeroa district, also for the right to connect any buildings or premises with the said electric wires, and to supply the owners with such electricity as they may require. The proposal evoked a good deal of discussion, the councillors generally being of the opinion that,- as there was a prospect of Paeroa being formed into a borough, it would not be right for the County Council to bind the future generation to such, a long period as 21 years. Eventually it was agreed that the matter be held over for further, information.

Mr J. Kennedy conducted an auction sale in the Te-Aroha Public Hall on Tuesday afternoon. There was a large attendance of buyers, and the bidding for various lots offered was spirited. Considerable business was.done in produce, potatoes sold from 4s 3d to 6s per sack, and carrots 2s 6d sack, larger lots 35s per ton. A large amount of drapery and furniture was also sold. • Mr Kennedy also disposed of farm implements, furniture, etc., for Mr Hansen, and fair prices were realised. The sale was a great success,, and we are 'informed Mr Kennedy intends to establish regular sales in Te Aroha. Therfollowing story comes from. an Exchange:—A travelling pedler of patent churns called at a farm house the other day soliciting patronage, and learning that the lady had a churning of cream on hand, wa3 anxious to churn it. The lady said that she had a patent chum already, but the iban insisted that his was so much better that he could get 21b more butter from the cream than she could from hor churn. She said *lf yo.u can I will buy 'it.’ So he left the churn, promising to come and prove it next-morning. The lady put her cream into her own chum and brought her butter, took it out, aud poured the buttermilk into the vendor’s churn. He came next morning and churned and churned, but no butter, and he exclaimed at last, ! There is no butter in this cream.’ * I know it said the lady, ‘ for I have, churned it in my own churn; but I wanted to see you get that other 21b.* There was no sale and no further-conversation. .
