' ASSAULTING A TEACHES . TIMABU, June 3. At the Police Court this morning a woman was fined 10s and costa , for assaulting a ; teaefier of the Timaru school for punishing her son,. She complained that she boxed/ the boy’s ears, and he is suffering from diseased ears. . Thames, Monday. : A Maori named Ngori Nui was arrested by Constable Stapleton at Whangamata yesterday on a charge 1 of stealing a horse from another Maori at Tapu on 30th Marbh last. He was brought to Thames to-day, and will be charged with the offence .at the Police Court to morrow morning. TARANAKI PETROLEUM WORKS New Plymouth, Monday. The public were present at the pumping operations to-day, when four barrels (.160 gallons) of oil were obtained. The oil flowed freely, and the public were delighted at what they saw. Three thousand shares in the new company were applied for to-day. A number of new bores will bo proceeded with. It is. reported that several new "companies are in process of formation.
