SCHOOL CONCERT.

On Saturday evening this concert was repeated with, some change of programme to an audience, which, if not so large as that ’of Friday evening, was equally appreciative. The first part of the programme was ’composed of songs rendered by .Misses Wainwright and Craig, and Messrs Hanby, Cornes, Tonge, Eoss, and Mclndoe. The chorus “ Our Bonnie, Island Home,” was also given by the school children. : ’

Miss Wainwright’s song “ Sweet Marie,” for finish and culture left nothing ,to be desired. Miss Craig was'.again and again encored for her rendering of the “ Alabama Coon,” which was the gem of the evening. Mr Hanby’s “Man who'broke the Bank,” fairly brought down the house, and in response to a recall he gave three additional; and original verses, which were really almost better than the song itself. Mr, Tonge’s “ Where did you get that Hat,” was also well received, and we must not omit to mention our old friend, Mr John Cornes, who gave an 'origaal song in good style and received a hearty recall. Mr Eoss’ song “ Marching,” Was a good item and well deserved the hpplause which it elicited from the audience. Mr Mclndoe sang “The Toiler’s,” with great feeling, but this gentleman'was suffering, from a relaxed throat, which somewhat marred the rendering of this beadtiful.com position. ' ; ■ The burlesque “Boauty and the Beast,” comprised the second part. Miss Hirst filled-the title role of Boauty as before, ably supported by Mr Cecil Bell as Zimri, whom we are sorry we omitted to , mention in our former report. His acting, of the part showed careful preparation and was most intelligent Miss Eva Bell a's tp.e fairy Silver Star, was as successful as on the previous evening, and all; the others filled their parts -very well indeed. Mr Woods, as the Beast, contributed greatly to the amusement of the audience. Too much praise cannot be bestowed on Mr and Mrs Marsdon, who were ably assisted by Mr and Mrs Bell and others in preparing and introducing the children. In another column we publish a letter of thanks from the School Committee.
