TE AROHA SCHOOL CONCERT

Tiie concert in aid;of; the Te Aroha school funds washeldiu the Public Hall last evening. The Brass Band played several selections in the open air before the opening. Long before the time'appointed people wended their way in the direction of the hall, the seatingjaccommodation of which was soon lacked to its utmost capacity, many coming from lung distances to be present. Punctually to time the curtain rose, and the school childrett sang as a chorus Dr Purchas’s popular song " Our with a swing and was much appreciated. Mr Mclndoe was well received with ‘ The girl he left behind Mr H. Tonge sang in character ‘The future Mrs Aw.kinsj’ and responded to an encore with a repeat. Miss E. Wainwright was in excellent voice and sang ‘Sweet Marie,’ and secured, a well merited encoi-e. Miss Craig, dressed in character, sang ‘The Alabama Coon,’ and scored a big success. She was a little nervous, being only her second public appearance, Mr Ross played the banjo accompaniment. Mrs Robson, piano, and Mr Ross, banjby played'with great taste ‘Park CroFCmt March.’ A trio (in oh- .actor) ‘ Where are you going iny pretty Maid,’/by the Misses Wainwright, and Mr Mclndoe, received a recall, Which Was responded to and concluded the first part of the programme. : The second part consisted of a Bur-lesque—-Beauty and the Beast.. Miss Hirst, asßeauty, played the leading role with excellent grace, and the character was well sustained throughout. This young lady manifested considerable talent and skill in her performance. Anna and Lolo, sisters of Beauty, was taken ‘by Miss Schult: e and Miss Fawcett in a very creditable manner. Mr F. Woods, as Beast, was a great success, receiving roars of laughter fvom-the audience, as t okens of appreciation; Miss Eva Bell played Fairy S 1 vers tar, with the judgment and precision of a trained-actress,' while the Misses Balcke, Gavir, Heathcote, and Marsden'flitted about ithe stage as attendant faries. .
