A TERRIBLE TRAGEDY DOUBLE MURDERAND SUICIDE . New Plymouth, Wednesday. News has been received of a triple tragedy at Mahoetahi, It is stated the wife of a man named Ben was found in a hut about halfra-mile from apa with her head smashed. An axe was found alongside the body. After killing >43 wife Ben went to the pa and killed his daughter. He next set fire to the whare, and then shot himself. An inquest will be held to-mor-row. Jealousy is supposed to be the cause. - SERIOUS ACCIDENT AT GISBORNE Gisborne, Wednesday. A serious collision between two racehorses oecurrod at the Park. Nap per, it is alleged, was being exercised the ‘reverse’ way, and at the turn ran into Perkin, which was being ridden full gallop. Napper had a leg broken, and had to bo shot. Perkin was injured across the loins, and it is doubtful if he will race again. Eeely, ti e rider of Napper, was serious y injured in tern ally,, andwas taken to the h 8 pi.tab Sufi, the rider of Feikin. was also much shaken, and had to lay up.
