TOWN BOARD.
The monthly > meeting of the above Board took place in the Bqiard’s office on Saturday evening last, the 11th iust. There were present: Com. Gavin (chairman), - Hetheriugtqa, Hotchm, and Gallagher; - * ’■ - 'V- • • ; Minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.; Tire inward and outward correspondence was also read.' • • ■■ rf-'; \
Various works asked to be carried out by ratepayers were left in the hands of the Work 3 Com nittee.
Bridge-street Contract;.— A leiier was read from the contractor for the formation, etc., of Bridge-street, asking for payment of £IOO on his contract Com Hotchin (one of rthe Works Committee), stated he had been over the work, and said that the work carried out so far was done in a most disgraceful way, and would not be in favour of g-antiDg the request. He thought that £SO was the value of the work done. ' v • Com Hetherington, who is also on the Works Committee, endorsed the remarks of Com Hotchin. - '
The Chairman proposed that the siim of £SO. (less workmen’s liens) be granted the contractor, and in the event of the contract being carried out to the satisfaction of the Works Committee, another meeting be called in' a fortnight to grant a further sum. Seconded by Com Hotchin and carried. Later on in the meeting, Mr J. Bew, the contractor, waited on the Board, and- expressed his dissatisfaction at the manner in which he had been treated by the Works Committee, and asking the Board to take some action in the matter. The Chairman informed Mr Bew that the Works Committee had full power to act in this matter, and-the Board would not interfere. Balance-sheet. that a meeting he called in two weeks time to consider the balance-sheet. •
The work on Lipsey’s bridge and Stoney Creek being completed it was decided to make the necessary application for the subsidy. Outstanding Rates. —lt was decided to take legal proceedings for the recovery of all outstanding, raies, and that an advertisement be inserted in the Te Aroha News to this effect.
. Tne following accounts were passed for paymentP. Baine, £1 9s 7d ; J, Lavery, £66 19s 9d; A. Balcke. 6s 6d ; A. Laybouro, £1 12s 4d; W. H. Knock, ss; Clerk, £3; T. McIndoe, 7s A. Smith, £l3 Is. This was all the business.
