MONTHLY MEETING

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Piako County .Council was held’ in the Chambers, Morrinsville, on Thursday, the 9fch inst. Present: Crs Chepmell (chairman), Gavin, Herries, Hodgson, and Hunt. A 4

The minutes of previous meeting were read and adopted. Correspondence. —Mr Taylor, contractor for repairs to the Upper Hill Track at Waiorongomai, wrote asking for an extension of time to finish the. work. •; • - _ • . Eesolved motion of Cr Gavin that he be' granted 1 month extension.

Hospital.— The Council resolvod to pay the sum of £7O on Account of their contribution to the Hospital and Charitable Aid Boards’, Hvhich this year amounts to £326 lid.

Goldfields - Revenue. —The Clerk vi;ai instructed to write to th;> Inspector of Mines drawing his attention to the small amount of revenue brought to. the credit of the Council for the 'past half-year, viz.; £ll 10s, requesting an explanation of the same. Finance.— The report of the Finance Committee was approved aud adopted. The sum of £6O was granted as subsidy to the Te Aroha Town Board 1 . . It was decided that Ad general rate should be struck and a farthing sepa rate rate in the Te Aroha riding. No separate rate for the Patafcere riding. Te Aroha will.have the 4d special rate as usual. •!

Waiorongomai- Tramway. —■ The Chairman and Clerk being a committee appointed to look in the question and consider the advisability of handing the tramway over to the Government, or otherwise disposing of the same, reported as follows That in their opinion it would bp unwise for the Council at present to entertain the idea of disposing of the property, owing to' the improved prospects of goldmiuing in that locality. • The report was received by tbe Couucii and adopted.

Working Foreman of Works. — Tho committee appoined to consider the employment of Working Foremen, reported that it .was propqsed to employ one man for the Te Aroha and Waitoa ridings, and one for the other portions of the County, and that al•eSrnatiye applications 6 be called for mau and horse at £2 per week, and 1 for man, horso, and dray at £2 10s per week. , , , } ' - / The Foreman of-Works will be expected to prepare specifications for road repairs and all works where an Engineer is not employed. The suggestions were approved by the CouneiL and it was resolved to invito applications for next meeting. (Full particulars of which will appear in a future issue). - Accounts amounting to £250 were passed for payment. This being all the business the Council rose. - v
