AUCKLAND SCHOOLS’ EXCURSION TO TE AROHA.
Saturday last was a red letter day in the history of Te Aroha. There have been numerous excursions to our sanatorium previous to Saturday, but never brought such a crowd of people as were seen about our Domain and township On that occasion. Punctually to time the long'excursion train, consisting of twenty large carriages drawn by two powerful engines, arrived at Te Aroha station. The schools represented were the city schools Wel-lesley-street, Beresford-street, Chapelstreet, Nelson-street also the Ponsonby, Parnell, Newton East ' and West, Devonport, Mount! Eden, and Avondale, space being, reserved in the front carnages for Newmarket and Remuera while the Onehunga contingent in separate carriages joined later on at the Penrose Junction.
The Dram and Fife Band of the Chappel-street school headed the crowd as they began to move away frorii the station, and played several airs on way to the Domain, and- also during the afternoon. The children were not long in finding their way to the various baths, to which the Domain Board had generously given them free access. The Te Aroha Brass Band played in the Domain during the afternoon, and considerably added to the enj oyinent of visitors. Everyone went away well pleased with their day's outing. There are rumours of another excursion coming up next Saturday.
