ELECTION OF SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The annual meeting of householders of Te Aroha was held in the Te Aroha Goldfields School on Monday evening for the purpose of electing the School Committee for the ensuing year. The attendance was very . meagre, only some. 24 householders being present, including six members of the outgoing Committee. The Rev. Evans moved, and Mr Spooner seconded, that Mr J. Comes take the chair pro. tern. Carried. . Mr Comes thanked the meeting for placing him in the chair,' and then proceeded to read the following Chairman’s report of the outgoing Committee : r • .
To Householder’s •Te Aboha Goldfield ■. ’ School District. , 3 Ladies and Gentleman.-3T have great ‘pleasure in submitting this the annual rer port for your approval for the term just ended; 0 Your school has been conducted in a-very able and satisfactory manner ; the schools cleaning has also been done well and faithfully., . - 3 ....... Your Committee fifid that the moneys granted from the Board of Education are scarcely sufficient to meet the accpunts for cleaning, stationary, etc., notwithstanding, they have been able to do some very substantial improvements to your school and grounds, through special grants from the Board' of Education, such as asphalting schools pathsjetc. -'-3 • Your Committee have every reason to be satisfied with the progress ma,de by pupil’s attending the school, but, regret that Jthe attendance is not as good as it should be, and as our school allowance is regulated by the working average,- likewise, the teacher’s salaries. Parents or guardian neglecting to send their children to school are doing an injury to those who do attend. Your Committee have all the necessary forms, and have taken all necessary•; steps towards adopting the compulsory clauses of the Education Act, but hitherto have refrained from the use of force in the matter. The school staff consist of Mr W. H. P. Marsden, head master; Mr Woods, assistant master; Miss Gibbons, assistant; and Miss Goldsworthy, assistant. Your Committee take this opportunity of: publicly expressing their thaDks to the Te Aroha Domain Board for the use of bath for swimming lessons and grounds for other occasions, and to all others, ladies and gentlemen, who have been instrumental, by their kindness, in furthering the interests and enjoyment of the Te Aroha Goldfields School children, and education generally. Mr Gilchrist, the Secretary, read the balance-sheet which showed that the Committee:commenced the year With a credit balance of .£l6 5s 3d and ended it with a debit balance of £6 13s 4d. Receipts, being £7O 11s 7d, and £77 4s lld. 3 The election of Committee was then proceeded with, which resulted in the re-election of the old Committee, with the exception of Mr J. Mills, who was replaced by tW Rov Joughin. " The following are the names Mr Gilchrist, Revs. Evans and Joughin, Messrs Cornea, Wallace, Mackie and Bell. ' : - ' Thanks to the Chairman and Scrutineers, Messrs Maingay and Mclndoe, closod the meeting. A meeting of the re-constructed Committee was held at the close of the public meeting when Mr Gilchrist was elected Chairman, and the Rev. T. A. Joughin, Secretary.
GORDON SETTLEMENT
The election of School Committee at the Gordon resulted as follows : Messrs Newsome, Thackray, Davey, Brady, and Barton) The first two named {were elected Chairman and Secretary, respectively. ;
